Katie and I first met on Sunday, June 2, 2002 at a mutual friend's birthday party. At the time, Katie lived in Columere Park, British Columbia and I was going to University in Calgary, Alberta. Over the next year, we hung out together several times with our mutual friends. On May 19, 2003 we started dating!
Katie is the most amazing, beautiful, intelligent, exciting, romantic young woman I have ever met. We spent the first three months of our relationship over 300 kilometers apart. The long distance aspect was difficult but the thought of us one day living in the same city was enough to get us through it. I made the three-hour drive to Invermere almost every weekend just to be with her. We communicated though email and instant messenger every day. As the time went on, we fell deeper and deeper in love.
Towards the end of the summer, Katie and I took a one-week vacation to Vancouver. We camped along the way and visited several attractions. Once in Vancouver, we went to Metrotown Mall and Stanley Park. We spent the next couple of days on Vancouver Island in Tofino. The weather was excellent and we greatly enjoyed each other's company. We returned to Invermere on the morning of my birthday, after driving all night from Vancouver. That afternoon, we drove to Calgary and I helped Katie move into the residence at Mount Royal College were she began her studies towards a Bachelor Degree in Education.
In April of 2004, Katie moved into the same house as me. My parents had purchased a second home in Calgary and I had been renting the basement suite for two years. In April, the upstairs renters moved out so Katie and her cousin Jenn decided to move in.
In the spring of 2004, Katie and I, along with Jenn, went to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico for two weeks of fun, sun and relaxation. It was the experience of a lifetime! We stayed at the all inclusive Royal Decameron Complex, just outside of the city. Our hotel room overlooked the ocean and we had pools and bars on either side of our building. The food and drinks at the resort were amazing as well. There were many activities for us to do, such as boogie boarding, swimming, kayaking, volleyball, sun tanning, and painting. The night life was very good as well - there was live entertainment every night and then a disco. We also took two trips into Puerto Vallarta to check out the markets.
On June 1, 2004, Katie and I got a new kitten - I actually got it for her for our one year anniversary. Her name is Chloe and she is now 7 years old. Since then, we have also got another cat, named Homer.
In the spring of 2006, Katie and I went to Las Vegas, Nevada for six days of shopping, sightseeing, and a little bit of gambling. We stayed at the luxurious Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino, located at the south end of the Las Vegas strip. We didn't win big but we had a great time and brought back many pictures and memories.
On September 29, 2006, Katie and I got the most amazing news ever! We were pregnant! We were both so excited and a little scared at the same time.
On December 8, 2006, Katie and I purchased our first new home. It is a two bedroom, two bathroom condo, located in Panorama Hills. The condo has a nice open kitchen, dinning room, and living room area along with a den. It also has an underground parking spot and an outside parking spot for both of our vehicles. We have lived there for almost two years now and are really enjoying it.
On Friday, June 8, 2007 at 1:58 PM, after 22 hours of labour, Katie gave birth to a beautiful baby girl. Surprise, it's not a boy! We were actually expecting a boy because during our 18 week ultrasound we were told that we were having a boy. I guess not… We named her Alyssa Catherine Maria Flury, Catherine in memory of Katie's Mom and Maria in memory of Katie's Grandma. We got her first name from a popular Country song called 'Alyssa Lies' by Jason Michael Carroll. Alyssa was 9 pounds, 11 ounces and 20 3/4 inches long. Click Here to check out Alyssa's baby website.
Alyssa is the most wonderful thing that has ever happened to us. She brings us both so much joy and happiness and has brought us even closer together in our relationship. We absolutely love having her in our family - the three of us are inseparable.
Katie and I had talked about marriage for many months and on October 25, 2007, I decided to make it official by making her my fiancée. Since we had talked about marriage so much in the past and already had a baby, it was difficult to establish that element of surprise. So one morning, I woke up early and setup a bunch of candles in Alyssa's room. Then I took the engagement ring and ring box and put it in Alyssa's crib. Alyssa woke up but stayed quite so that she wouldn't ruin the surprise. Then I went and woke Katie up and said that she had to come see Alyssa in her crib because she was doing something cute. Katie finally got out of bed and we walked into Alyssa's room. Right away, I got down on one knee and asked her to marry me. She said "Yes"! Katie and I spent the rest of the day together, with Alyssa. It was such a special day.
Over the years, Katie and I have enjoyed many things together, including traveling, camping, going to concerts, such as Tim McGraw and Shania Twain, and spending many days at the Calgary Stampede. Katie and I have taken countless trips to Invermere to visit friends and family. We both enjoy skiing (Me) and snowboarding (Katie) in the winter and golfing and the beach in the summer. We also both enjoy heading out to the mall to go shopping or just cuddling up on the couch and watching some television or a movie.
Katie and I are so excited for our wedding in the summer and can't wait to see all of our friends and family. It will be so nice when we can call each other husband and wife. In October, we are planning on going to Honolulu, Hawaii for our honeymoon. In the next couple of years, we want to purchase a house together and also have a second child. Katie and I love each other so much and are looking forward to spending the rest of our lives together.
